The Hobbit

This page concerns the language that J.R.R. Tolkien uses in his book The Hobbit or There and Back Again. This is one of my most favorite books which I read whenever I don’t really know what else to read. This book is what first inspired me to learn different languages and alphabets of the world. It is a simple “code-like” alphabet with symbols to directly replace their English values. Tolkien based this alphabet on the Futhark or Old Anglo-Saxon alphabet. Here it is:
